How accurate is the Navy method?
It's a reasonable estimate for most people, typically within a few percentage points of more precise methods like DEXA scanning, but it's not a clinical measurement.
Why does the formula need different measurements for men and women?
Body fat distribution differs by sex on average, so the Navy method uses a hip measurement for women in addition to neck and waist, which aren't needed for the male formula.
